Hailing from Chattanooga, TN, singer/songwriter Luke Powers got a head start on his music career by being born into a musical family. Now residing in Franklin, TN, Luke has worked with several industry notables throughout his life including Marcus Hummon (author of hits for The Dixie Chicks, Wynona, etc.), Brian Ahern (best known as producer of Emmylou Harris' classic 1970s albums), Garth Hudson (The Band), Sneaky Pete Kleinow (Flying Burrito Brothers) and also co-written songs with country singer Mark Collie and Earl Bud Lee.
"My songs
fit somewhere between William Blake and Hank Williams, though folks tell me I
sound like John Prine or James McMurtry,” Luke remarks. He is comfortable with
either an acoustic or electric based performance, stating that his style is
“lyric-driven music for the thinking man/woman. It’s Folk-rock without the
auto-tuned navel-gazing.”
Luke has a PhD in English from Vanderbilt University and Master's in Folklore from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When he’s is not performing or writing songs he teaches at Tennessee State University. In addition, he has also published his own brand of fiction and poetry.
